In discussion about the definition of numeracy or
mathematical literacy people reason from the mental images they have on
those subjects. These images are mostly formed through
experiences in arithmetic and mathematics lessons in school situations.
My experience tells me is that showing pictures of numeracy
situations from the world around us, is a powerful tool to
form alternative mental images on these concepts. The more recognizable the pictures are, the more
effective the impact is.
You find several sets of
numeracy pictures from several countries. My ideal is to expand this collection to all kind of
