Indonesië

In Indonesië is al gedurende bijna tien jaar een beweging gaande om het reken- en wiskundeonderwijs te verbeteren. belangrijkste drijfveer is de slechte score van Indonesië op de internationale vergelijkende onderzoeken als TIMSS en PISA.

Daarnaast is er een wijd verbreide wiskundeangst (Math Anxiety, Maths Phobia), en is wiskunde heel erg beperkt tot alleen in de klas. Dit leidt er toe dat veel te veel kinderen niet de nuttige en nodige wiskundekennis en vaardigheden opdoen die zeer nodig is voor de verdere ontwikkeling van het land.

De beweging wordt ondersteund door het APS en het Freudenthal Instituut in een project van Nuffic.

Ook is er een sterke belangstelling naar de ontwikkelingen op het gebied van gecijferdheid, dat hier meestal Melek Matematika wordt genoemd.

November 29 - 30, 2006 ICMNS

The International Conference on Mathematics and Natural Sciences (ICMNS) 2006 is organized to promote the development of sciences and their prospects in the development of science based technology. This also serve as a celebration for the 59th anniversary of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, ITB. The four previous events were organized at the national level. This year we would like to invite colleagues from overseas to take part in the conference with the aim of extending the existing network of researchers.

During the conference a mini-symposium was organized on the developments in Mathematics Education in Indonesia and abroad.
